Lawmakers will vote Tuesday on a 1.6 billion dollar budget that may cause devastating cuts to state agencies across the state.

That includes courthouses in Alabama’s 67 counties.
Montgomery County Circuit Clerk Tiffany McCord says her office is still reeling from the 2008 cuts.
And her office would have to shut down if there were more cuts.
She says the proposed 15.7 percent cuts to court systems would leave her with two employees.

“It would be unrealistic for us to open our doors. We could not send out jury summons. We could not process payments for restitution to victims, we could not process money from garnishments when it comes to money people are owed through a civil case, so it would effectively shut down the court systems in Montgomery County.”

McCord says she has faith that the legislature will work out the budget and her office will not have to close.
