We are less than 100 days away from the Montgomery mayoral race and as candidates continue to campaign and stress their platforms, voters are weighing in on what they’d like in the next mayor.
Incumbent Todd Strange, former Congressman Artur Davis, Montgomery County Commissioner Dan Harris, State School Board Vice Chair Ella Bell and Community Activist Jon Da’Voe all want to be Montgomery’s next mayor.
But what do VOTERS want?
We drove around Montgomery asking residents what they’d like the next mayor to do for the city. Residents from all parts of town tell us they’re concerned about roads.
“They’re cracked and real bumpy and then we need speed bumps because Riviera Road out there looks like a speedway,” said resident Fannie Lewis.
“Our street is just really messed up from all of the construction going on on the other side of the street,” said Pearlie McIntyre, who lives in English Village.
“I think they’re definitely in the right direction,” says Glen Smith.
“Some of the roads and stuff like that do need to be worked on but that’s in every county I guess.”
Residents on the West side say they’d like something done about vacant buildings.
“Probably some more stores. Open up everything that’s closed down over this way.”
Resident Michael Ekpoh is a filmmaker who says he’d like Montgomery be more of an entertainment hub.
“People who are artistic and creative, need more opportunities like that. Keeps people out of trouble.”
Campaign signs have popped up across Montgomery. Others tell us they just want someone who will keep their word.
“Whoever wins, I hope they’ll be up to par,” says one resident. “Do what they say they’re going to do.”
