Hyundai continued celebrations for the plant’s ten year anniversary of being in Montgomery with a dinner reception at the Renaissance Hotel downtown.

City leaders, including members of the chamber, county commission and even the governor attended.

City and state officials are celebrating the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing plant’s 10 year anniversary of being in the capitol city. Governor Robert Bentley says it’s quite an accomplishment for the state.

“10 years ago, there were very few cars produced in Alabama.”

Rumors of another Hyundai plant building in Montgomery have been around for months.
And Aston Martin is gearing up to be the next foreign automaker to build an assembly plant in the United States. Reports indicate – the company’s CEO is leaning towards Alabama.

“When the time comes, we will make the appropriate ask,” Bentley said.

We asked Governor Robert Bentley if the rumors were true and about the possibility of more car plants coming to Alabama. He wouldn’t confirm or deny anything but tell us he does work to bring more car plants here.

“First we need to allow them to make a business decision and they will look at all areas. Obviously, they love Alabama. Now it may not be Montgomery. We don’t, the Commerce Department and the Governor’s office, we don’t pick areas. “

Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange says Hyundai has only made Montgomery a better city.

“Any time that you can measure before Hyundai and after Hyundai, that’s a pretty significant statement because they have joined with us in the success of the River Region.”

The dinner was put on by Committee 100, an organization that supports economic growth in Montgomery. Chairman Carl Baker is also the President of ServisFirst Bank and says Hyundai is a good neighbor.

“They’ve got 3000 employees. 17 thousand working the tier 1 and 2,3 companies here so it’s really done an incredible job for the economy here.”
