Record-Breaking Alligator On Display in Montgomery

The biggest American alligator ever caught in the wild is now on display.

Mandy Stokes and her family fished the Stokes alligator out of a creek near Camden in Wilcox County. It took them nearly 5 hours to catch it last august. it is almost sixteen feet long and weighs 1,000 pounds. they say they never set out to break a world record and couldn’t believe it when they saw it out of the water.

“Disbelief. When we pulled a tape measure over him and we realized how long he was and how long the previous state record was, it was just shock and awe,” said Mandy Stokes.

The alligator will be on display at the Mann Center at the Montgomery Zoo through Sunday. After that, the family plans to store it and show it off at exhibitions.
