The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is taking measures to ensure safety both on land and in water this Memorial Day Weekend.

AAA is predicting more traffic to be on the road this holiday period..than in the last 10 years. Because of that, law enforcement agents say they want to be highly visible.

Sergeant Steve Jarrett, as well as other members of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, are on a mission to keep you safe this Memorial Day weekend.

“We want to promote highway safety and water safety. We want to encourage voluntary compliance with the traffic laws. For those who refuse to comply, we’re going to be out there and taking the appropriate enforcement actions necessary.”

They’re watching for drivers under the influence, those texting while driving, speeders and those not wearing seat belts.

But law enforcement officials aren’t just out writing tickets, they’re helping stranded motorists.

AAA predicts 33 million drivers will be on the road this holiday weekend and Jarrett says this year,  the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is ready to respond to anything. But with proposed budget cuts to ALEA, Jarrett says next year may be a different story.

“We want to be as highly visible as we can be with the skeleton crew that we have.”

Gas prices are also lower this summer season than they’ve been in the last five years.
