SEC Spring Meetings

The SEC spring meetings kicked off Tuesday in Destin, Florida. Coaches, presidents and athletic directors of the Southeastern Conference are putting their ideas together to make the league better. Two hot topics kicking off the conference were the cost of attendance and satellite camps. The SEC wants to make sure the cost of attendance of an athlete reflects the true cost of every student. SEC and ACC schools are not allowed to participate in camps that are not within their own state or within 50 miles of their campus, per conference rules. Schools in the other Power 5 conference can take part in satellite camps around the country. Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh will be in Prattville next week. According to ESPN, conference officials announced their plan to propose legislature limiting coaches’ access to their recruiting grounds via satellite camps. The SEC is also considering changing its graduate transfer rules, as both items set them apart from the rest of the Power 5. “If we’re going to compete for the championship, and everybody’s going to play in the playoff system and everybody’s going to compete for that, then we need to get our rules in alignment so we’re all on a level playing field,” Alabama head football coach Nick Saban said at the meetings in Destin, Fla.
