The City of Montgomery is upgrading its public transportation system.
On Thursday, the city unveiled eleven new buses which are now in service around the city. The transportation service is now calling itself “The M.” You’ll see that logo on the new buses and the six new bus shelters around the city.
City officials say they got a federal grant to cover most of the $715,000 cost for the new buses.
The transportation system has faced budget crunches, but its general manager says lower fuel costs and a department layoff turned things around.
“Fuel costs was able to help us save some of that money. With these new cars, we’re able to save on some of the maintenance we had with the older buses,” said Kelvin Miller, General Manager of the M.
To ride the bus, you’ll pay 2 dollars per trip. That is reduced to 1 dollar for the elderly and disabled.
