From the West Alabama Newsroom–  Selma Police have a new tool to help them keep children in the community safe from sexual predators — thanks to Dallas Co. District Attorney Office.

A new computer system has been donated to the Selma Police Department — to help authorities register and track sex offenders.

District Attorney Michael Jackson says the equipment was funded by a grant through the Alabama District Attorneys Association and the Office of Prosecution Services.

“Sexual offender commits one of the worst crimes you can commit. Some people think that’s worse than murder because of the way you affect somebody life,” said Jackson

The new computer system will also be used to help police notify people about sex offenders who move into their communities.
