TROY, AL — Troy officially annouced that John Hartwell will leave his position as Athletic Director for the Trojans to become the Vice President and Athletic Director at Utah State.
Hartwell was Athletic Director at Troy for nearly three years. He was responsible for the hiring of several coaches, including football coach Neal Brown.
In a press release, Troy Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. said:
“In his tour of duty at TROY, John has provided great service to our athletic program and this move is a positive reflection on what he has accomplished here. John has set the stage for our program to reach the next level and we wish him and his family well. We will also miss Dr. Heather Hartwell, who was outstanding as first lady of Trojan athletics as she brought a new dimension to that role by working tirelessly to promote TROY. Utah State is definitely getting two for one!”
Hartwell also had a statement in the press release:
“Troy will always hold a special place in my family’s heart. I can’t say thank you enough to Dr. and Mrs. Hawkins, the Troy University staff, the Troy community, the fans and most importantly the Troy student-athletes for their hard work and support during my tenure at Troy. The Trojan Nation is strong and is continuing to grow, and I look forward to tracking the unrelenting success of all the Trojan teams. The friendships we made will last a lifetime and I will forever be a Trojan.”
Troy’s search for a new Athletic Director will begin immediately. The search will be handled by and internal committee led by Dr. Doug Patterson, a Special Assistant to the Chancellor.
