From the West Alabama Newsroom–  The death rate from prostate cancer among African-American men in Alabama is number one in the nation. But there’s an effort underway around the state to try and do something about it.

Urology Health Foundation is working with county health departments to make free prostate cancer screenings available to people in under-served, high-risk areas of the state.

The group has been working to raise public awareness about prostate cancer for nearly a decade.

“Our goal is to stop so many men from dying from prostate cancer,” said Dr. Thomas Moody.

“If prostate cancer is caught early, its almost always curable.”
