If you’re driving the highways and backroads of some of Alabama’s most rural counties, then you’re driving some of the deadliest roadways in the state.
According to data gathered from the National Highway Safety Administration and compiled by autoinsurancecenter.com, the highways in Lowndes County are the second deadliest in Alabama. Â
According the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office there are 12 deputies that patrol the entire county with a population of just over 10,000 people.
Deputies say the biggest safety issue they face is speeding and drivers not wearing their seat belts.
They also want to remind residents that the public can be a big help in keeping highways safe. Â If you see someone driving recklessly, simply pick up the phone and call authorities to report it.
