Calhoun Foods Closes Grocery Store on West Fairview Ave.

After 30 years in business, Calhoun Foods has closed its grocery store on West Fairview Avenue in Montgomery.

We spoke with the company’s chief of staff by phone, who says the market is oversaturated with grocery stores. She says the Calhoun family has been contemplating getting out of the business for the past five years and decided just last night that now is a good opportunity to close up shop.

They say they’d like to thank God, their employees and their customers who’ve allowed them to grow their brand over the years.

The Calhouns do not own the building, but have operated it through a lease.

Calhoun Foods now has only two stores remaining. One in Selma and the other in Tuskegee.

Calhoun Foods is part of Calhoun Enterprises, founded by well-known businessman Greg Calhoun in 1984. The company operates several business ventures.
