The Alabama Department of Tourism is trying a new method of connecting Alabama makers to business owners who can sell their products.
The Makers Market is a one-day pop-up shop of sorts in downtown Montgomery. About 30 vendors from across the state came with samples of their goods to market to shops who want to put them on their shelves.
Tourism officials say it can help small local crafts and food sellers trying to reach a wider audience.
“I buy for the governor’s mansion gift shop, and we like having the Alabama products here, because people, especially with the base here, want to take something home with them, back to where they came from, and I was like, what’s the best way to see all this stuff without going to each place-and then i thought other stores would want that same opportunity,” said Leigh Cross with the Alabama Tourism Department.
Tourism officials hope to make the Makers Market an annual event.
