From the West Alabama Newsroom–  A change could be on the way to Perry County that would change how quickly people get emergency medical care.

In about 3 months — Perry County could be without ambulance service — if county leaders can’t find the money to pay for it.

An effort to push an ad valorem tax referendum through the state legislature this session failed. Now county leaders are scarmbling to find another way to keep the county safe.

As of September 30th ambulance service won’t be available for citizens in Perry County,” said Commissioner Albert Turner.

Dr. W. Shane Lee with the Marion Clinic says not having ambulance service in the county would be a disaster. “The dynamics of a rural community necessitates ambulance service,” he said.

It costs the county about 200-thousand dollars a year to subsidize ambulance service in the county.
