The City of Troy may soon announce who will be the next lead law enforcer in the city.

As we first reported, Chief Jimmy Ennis announced he will be retiring after more than 30 years in law enforcement.

Alabama News Network is the only station to listen in on the interviews for his replacement.

The two candidates vying for the Troy Police Chief position are no strangers. Both Captains and both members of the Emergency Response Team, Danny Barron and Randall Barr have each served more than 20 years at the department. And they have similar views on what’s needed to move forward.

Capt. Barr said, “We’ve got to get out and make contacts in the community, people that we can talk to and not just to have people to call about crimes. But, help the citizens. We’ve got to maintain our credibility and they’ve got to be able to trust the police and what we do.”

Capt. Barron said, “I think it’s important to catch our kids while they’re young and to educate them on what officers do and why they’re out here and that police officers really care about them we’re not out here to get them or not out to hurt them we are out here to keep them safe we are out here to hopefully build a better community and to build relationships with the community..”

The council is expected to appoint a new police chief at their meeting on Tuesday.
Chief Ennis will retire October 1st.
