A new health center is calling the city of Prarttville home. City officials say it will have a big impact on the health of athletes in the area.

The Lemak Health Center specializes in helping athletes recover from a wide range of injuries.

“We take care of Prattville High School, Marbury as well as Alabama State University. So it made sense for us to be down here, in our patient-central model, and being closer to our patient base instead of having them come to Birmingham to see us,” CEO Matthew Lemak told Alabama News Network.

Sports medicine is growing with the popularity of athletics.

“There’s a lot of people making money playing sports, and so it’s pushing the need to get athletes back to where they need to be quicker and more appropriately,” Dr. Loren James, an orthopedic surgeon, said.

Next door to the Lemak Health Center is the Drayer Physical Therapy Center. Doctors say having the center next door is crucial when it comes to helping an athlete recover from a serious injury.
