Alabama Lawmaker Pay Changes In Effect

Alabama lawmakers are getting paid differently under new guidelines with the latest legislative session.
Voters approved the changes in 2012, which will pay legislators equal a salary equal to median household incomes across the state. Lawmakers make about $42,000 a year and can get reimbursed for job-related travel.
It’s supposed to save the state money, but Alabama Senate numbers show so far, the system costs about the same.
Lawmakers who supported the change say the savings will be more clear when legislators are not traveling for work during the session.
