Renee Casillas addresses her neighbors in the Deerfield Neighborhood.
She is president of the neighborhood association and announced her candidacy to them. She says there are several things she wants to address if elected to the city council, improving education is one.
“Another area, especially on this side of town, is infrastructure improvements. I do work with the most respected consulting engineers the state has to offer and folks on the national level. We are a national level organization, so I know what infrastructure means to our city,” said Casillas.
And there is also another main issue that brings the neighbors together.
“Really concerned about the break-ins and stuff, a lot of people coming in vandalizing our vehicles,” said neighbor Terry Adams.
That’s why these neighbors are considering a surveillance camera for their neighborhood. Some still have mixed feelings about it.
“It’s good and its bad. I love the idea of a camera because we can ID license plates. But I’m worried about where the feed goes. Who’s watching who’s going, who’s coming?” said Adams.
Residents say they want to make sure curbing crime is important to the next district 2 representative.
“The councilman that I guess was residing did a very good job at keeping it at a minimal and keeping us abreast of what was going on around the area. But just the continuing basis or keeping everything safe,” said George Guilford.
Casillas says this is something she definitely wants to address if she is elected.
“There are many reasons, but District 2 is so close to my heart. It matters to me and I feel like I can make a difference,” said Casillas.
There are three other candidates running for city council District Two.
They are Brantley Lyons, Joseph Epps, and Doc Holliday.
The election is August 25th.
