A Montgomery Boys and Girls Club is still picking up the pieces after it was targeted by vandals over the weekend.

It was burglarized not once but twice.

Everyone at the Regency Park Boys and Girls Club is really in shock that someone would come in and essesntially steal from kids.

There have been two burglaries within a 48 hour time span at the Billy Thames Boys & Girls Club in Montgomery.

“The first time they took some lawn equipment,” said Interim President Joe Williams.

Items like yard trimmers and blowers…

“The second time they pretty much ransacked the building.”

Seven televisions, several security monitors and the security system hard drive was stolen. But that’s not all.

“A microwave. They even took the childrens’ snacks. That’s a low person to take childrens’ snacks.”

The thieves broke windows and made a mess. Now, Williams and his staff are left cleaning up, and without many of their resources, all while holding summer camp for kids.

“We have about 12 public schools and another five that we, I’ll say, cater to by our after school program or our summer program.”

Seven year old Hayden MacMillion attends the after school program.

“It’s fun,” she said. “They be nice to me.”

14-year-old Terence Mickels knows the value of the club, which sits inside of the Regency Park neighborhood, an area that’s seen its share of crime.

“Just because we are in a bad environment, we can still have fun.”

But now, burglars have limited that fun. Though Williams remains optimistic that the culprits won’t return.

“There’s nothing to get unless they’re going to come and do some clean up work,” he said.

Williams says if people want to donate, The Boys and Girls Club would appreciate gift cards to Costco so they can get food and snacks for the kids.

He says in the near future, the club will try to partner with local businesses to create scholarships.

Police are still investigating the burglary but No arrests have been made.
If you have any information about this crime, you’re encouraged to call the Montgomery Police Department at (334) 241-2651.
