One study has named Butler County as the safest county in the state of Alabama.

The study comes from niche.com. The report is based on the amount of crime that takes place every year.

Butler County had the lowest crime rate amongst other counties in the state, according to the website.

Sheriff Kenny Harden says the biggest priority for the county is getting drugs off the streets and out of the hands of young people.

“If drugs are readily available out here for them, on any corner, then you have a tendency to have kids on drugs easier. The way we’ve worked drugs here, I think we’ve kept a lot of kids from having contact with the drugs,” Harden told Alabama News Network.

Deputies are also looking to continue a strong relationship with the schools as well as the community.
