From the West Alabama Newsroom– The Anderson Monarchs Little League Baseball team and their star pitcher Mo’ne Davis were in Selma Friday taking in some of the city’s rich civil rights history.
The team toured the Selma Interpretive Center — walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge — then visited the National Voting Rights Museum. The Monarchs are on a 4500 mile Barnstorming Civil Rights Tour. The team is visiting 20 cities in 23 days.
“This is like the perfect time for these kids. They’re at the right age where they can understand it now and you know the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, Ferguson, Baltimore, everything going on in the country right now, I just felt like this was the time to teach them,” said Monarchs coach Steve Bandura.
Little league phenom Mo’ne Davis gained national recognition after pitching a shut-out during the 2014 Little League World Series.
