After a deadly Memorial Day weekend in Montgomery, Police Chief Ernest Finley says crime is now heading in the right direction.
“We are kind of rebooting what we got and just giving some assignments and really hit those hard and fast areas and concerns and try to get the right person that is committing those various acts throughout the city,” said Finley.
Chief Finley says there are two key ways the department is able to monitor their progress with crime in the city.
“Number one, we look at the number of calls of service and number of crimes in those particular areas. So we see those numbers go down. The other most important, when we go to those community meetings and different community groups to get there input and their perception, and what they see we are doing is effective,” said Finley.
He says so far the summer plan of getting more “boots on the ground” and officers into the communities has worked.
“We have a plan and as long as we stick to the plan, and really treat our personnel as professionals, and we will push crime in the right direction, which we are,” said Finley.
