Opelika, AL – Rising Alabama Crimson Tide junior Robby Shelton tied for third place at the Barbasol Championship golf tournament in Opelika, Alabama.

Shelton finished the tournament at fourteen under par tied with Wee Kim from Japan, and Ricky Barnes from the USA.  ” It was amazing.  I played well, that’s all I could ask for.  To do this with a sponsor exemption, it’s great. I mean, I’m speechless right now,” said Shleton.

The Barbasol Championship is Shelton’s second career start in a PGA TOUR event. He missed the cut last season at the U.S. Open. “I’ve always wanted to be on the tour.  It’s been fun being out here with them.  (any consideration going pro)  Not right now.  I mean, I’ve got to work on my putting, for sure,” Shelton said.

Earlier this season at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Jon Rahm became the first amateur to finish in the top 5 of a PGA TOUR event since Chris Wood (5th) at the 2008 Open Championship and Justin Rose (T4) at the 1998 Open Championship.
