Kids Count Data Book Shows Good & Bad in Alabama

A yearly report card that tracks the well being of children nationwide including here in Alabama has been released.Â
The Kids Count Data Book is published each year by the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
In Alabama, where there are some improvements from last year, the state still ranks near the bottom of the list dropping from 44th to 45th in the nation.Â
One of the areas the state is lagging behind in is poverty. Â Since 2008 there has been a 22% increase of children living in poverty to almost 300,000
Areas of improvement include children’s health where the rates of low-birthweight babies, teens who abuse alchohol or drugs and children without health insurance all made gains.
