From the West Alabama Newsroom– A spike in tourism in Selma is generating more tax dollars for the city.
Mayor George Evans says revenue from sales and lodging taxes in the city is up this year. He says a significant spike in tourism is responsible for the increase.
Evans says more families and groups have been touring and site-seeing in the city than the year before.
“If its not raining and the sun is shining they’re coming in everyday with buses of young people, adults, to take pictures on the bridge and walk across the bridge,” he said.
Evans says tax revenue helps the city pay for the services it provides to residents.
