German Automaker Opening New Plant in Auburn
Fifty new jobs are heading to Alabama. German automaker Schmidt Maschinenbau has announced plans to build its first U.S. manufacturing plant in Alabama, in the city of Auburn. The Alabama Department of Commerce released the statement today, saying production is expected to begin in 2016. Schmidt Maschinenbau makes car parts for Mercedes-Benz and other German automakers. The company’s President, Herbert Schmidt, says they will begin filling positions this coming fall.
