Troy city leaders are hoping to extend the city’s walking trail.
Parks and recreation leaders plan to apply for a $100,000 ADECA grant, pending city council approval.
Right now the walking trail near the rec center is 1.1 miles. The city would have to pitch in $20,000 and the total would cover the engineering costs, asphalt and clearing needed to extend it by an additional mile.
Dan Smith, Troy Parks and Recreation Director said, “We encourage people to find exercise opportunities. Obviously for adults baseball and softball are not options as they are for the children and whether it be swimming or our fitness center, walking is one of the best cardio exercises available and many adults and young people take advantage of our walking trail and we just encourage exercise.”
The walking trail was added five years ago. City leaders say it’s very popular and can be used by anyone for free from sun up to sun down.
