From the West Alabama Newsroom–  People who live in the small Marengo County town of Thomaston will soon be able to do their grocery shopping a lot closer to home.

Dave’s Market is opening up a new grocery store in Thomaston.

Mayor Jeff Laduron says the store be located in the old Marengo County High School gymnasium which is being totally remodeled.

Laduron says having a full service grocery store in town will be convenient for residents — plus it’ll bring jobs and tax revenue to the small town.

“This is huge for Thomaston, town of about 418 people, we have to drive a good distance to get groceries,” said Laduron.

The project represents a million dollar investment in the town.

The new store is expected to open in November.
