From the West Alabama Newsroom–  The Selma Police Department is under new leadership as out-going police chief William Riley wraps up his last day on the job.

After seven and half years — the city of Selma has a new top cop.

Riley resigned to become the chief of police in Inkster, Michigan. Riley says he’s leaving the Selma Police Department in far better shape than it was in when he took over as chief.

“I don’t have many regrets but I would say my biggest one would be the fact that we worked very hard and my people worked very hard and that we were not able to secure them a raise,” he said.

Former Selma and Northport Police Chief Robert Green has been named interim chief until a permanent police chief is selected.
