They started their 860 mile Journey for Justice in Selma over the weekend.

Walking every step of the way.

Among them, Rabbis from Detroit, Michigan.

“We feel that we, as Jews, are commanded to pursue justice. This was a call for us to do so, we had to step up. Jews and Rabbis were there when they marched from Selma to Montgomery in 1965. And they wanted us here now, so we’re going to come,” said Rabbi Ariana Silverman.

And they are even carrying the Torah, holy scriptures, on the route as well.

“It’s the words in here that we’re trying to live and that’s what’s important,” said Jim Marks.

“What do we want?! Justice!!….When do we want it?! Now!!” chanted the crowd.

Their historic journey will take them across 5 states and will end at the nation’s capital.

And they aren’t the only ones on this long journey. They are asking others to join in along the way.

“If you got a mile, if you 10 blocks. Stop and join us on the journey. This is about all of us coming together collectively to send a message to Washington about the agenda for the new year,” said Carmen Watkins, National Field Director, NAACP.
