Governor Bentley has made a proposal for the special session is to increase the tax on sodas and other sugary drinks.

The proposal would raise the tax on sodas and other beverages like sweet tea and sports drinks by 5 cents for every 12 ounces.

The owner of BJ’s Grocery in Montgomery says the tax proposal could put him out of business.

Kenny Jackson has been in busines for 4 months.  He says any extra charge to his customers might force them to spend less money.

The alabama beverage association has also denounced the proposal.
