From the West Alabama Newsroom–  Free medical services are available for people in West Alabama for the next two weeks.

U.S. Army Reserve medical units are providing medical, dental and optical services to people at no cost.

Reserve officials say the services are offered on a first come first served basis — and are available to anyone.

“Its a form of a training exercise for us and obviously every year we do have several trainings just like this preparing us for emergency situations or humanitarian situations either stateside or overseas,” said Reserve spokesperson Aniel Bonachea.

“However in this particular mission the best thing is not only are we obtaining those skills, but at the same time it’s a great feeling for us, because we’re able to place what the Army has taught us, what the government has taught us and we’re able to give back to the local communities.”

Bonachea says there are operations underway at this time, in Selma, Demopolis and Camden.
