There’s a new ministry in Montgomery and the faces behind it may surprise you. These church goers are usually dressed in black leather and helmets. That’s because they’re bikers working to spread the Gospel.

They give new meaning to the phrase ‘come as you are.” God Speed Biker Ministries is Christian based. Don’t be intimidated by the Harleys parked out front, this church welcomes everyone.

God Speed Biker Ministries was started by Mark Fronduti, a man who’s had to overcome his fair share of obstacles.

“I’ve had instances where I’ve seen an angel I believe,” he said. “And I should have been dead a few times.”

He says he felt called to start a ministry that appeals to Montgomery’s biker community. Service is held at A&P Motors on Eastern Boulevard every other Sunday. Each member is given a red towel, to represent the blood of Christ.

“There are some other biker ministries but nothing like this. We are allowed, with the Peavy’s consent, to take the bikes inside of the building while we have ministry.”

Although there is plenty of seating inside, church goers sit on their bikes during service. Fronduti’s son Garrett is seeing firsthand how his dad’s ministry is changing lives.

“I feel like it’s something that people feel like they needed. They just didn’t know it. We actually had one man here on the first day we had it, come up, shook his hand, telling him that he felt like he needed to be here.”

“Bikers need the Lord too,” said Kelly Taylor, a church member.

Taylor said the church’s judgement-free environment is inviting.

“There’s no walls. You just be who you are because that’s what God said. Jesus said ‘I go to the centers, I go out there. I don’t need somebody who thinks they’re perfect.'”

While bikers are often stereotyped as intimidating or outlaws, these Christians say you can’t judge a book by it’s cover.

“People have that mystique about bikers and just like anything else in any quality of life, you have your good and you have your bad but you know, we’re all good,” Fronduti said. “Do we have a little bad? Yes, because we wouldn’t start praying to God if we didn’t have some bad.”

“It’s a brotherhood, a sisterhood,” said Garrett. “No matter who you are, we love you.”

So although the look is different, the message remains the same.

The next service is Sunday, August 23rd.
Doors open at 9:30 for donuts and coffee and Service begins at 11.
