Neighborhoods Cleaning Up After Storms Rock Montgomery

Crews have been out all day in Montgomery cleaning up from last night’s dangerous storms. Although several areas of the city were hit, one neighborhood in particular got hit pretty badly…the Bellehurst community off of Atlanta Highway and Perry Hill Road.
Â
“All of this transpired within 15-20 minutes,” said resident Stan Wilson.
Â
Bellehurst residents have some cleaning up to do after Tuesday night’s storms knocked down trees, knocked out power, and blew debris just about everywhere.
Â
“Mowing, picking up leaves, limbs and stuff…getting everything back to usual.”
Â
Just two doors down, in the 200 block of Holly-Ridge Road, a house was nearly cut in half when a massive tree came down on it. Dale Anderson owns Alabama Tree Service and has crews working to remove the debris.Â
Â
“Well, it’s pretty dangerous,” he said. “We have to really think it through and figure out where we’re going to start at, our starting point. This is a really large tree.”
Â
The woman who lives at the house was inside at the time the tree came down but thankfully was not hurt.Â
Â
Resident Henry Adair was on the phone all morning arranging to get trees in his yard removed. Two fell, one was a pear tree….
Â
“The other one was a pine tree that worms had gotten into, that had split off from the property that’s behind mine and the top part of the tree came down on the storage house.”
Â
Across town, Cloverdale was also hit hard. A tree fell on this car on Woodley Road. There were no injuries and amazingly, those inside of the car were able to exit.
Â
More than 5000 people lost power last night. An Alabama Power spokesman tells Alabama News Network power has been restored to the vast majority of customers whose service was interrupted.
