With a new school year in full swing, it’s been a bumpy road for parking on Troy University’s campus.
University leaders say increased enrollment and a new residence hall adding 400 students to campus are some of the reasons parking spaces are hard to come by. A student started a petition to build a parking deck earlier this week and it’s already been signed more than 1,300 times. But, it doesn’t appear a parking deck will be built anytime soon.
Heath Barton, SGA President said, “Unfortunately right now a parking deck is out of the question, due to some issues dealing with the University and cost, but right now we are strictly focusing on finding areas where we can start building a parking lot so students can start using that parking lot hopefully in the next semester or in the next year.”
The student government association is working to appease some of the parking frustrations. An email was sent out that tickets for having no decal or parking on the grass within the first week of school will be voided.
