From the West Alabama Newsroom– A Selma city councilman is calling out the owners with unkept property in his ward.
Councilman Michael Johnson says there are far too many dilapidated houses and neglected properties in Ward 8 — and he wants property owners to clean it up.
Johnson says the properties are not only eyesores — they’re also health and safety hazards.
“Its causing a lot of problems. You got snakes, you got rats. You got even drug use and gang members hiding out in these homes and things and causing problems'” said Johnson.
“You got some, especially in the winter time when its getting cold, they’ll put their own little fire pit in there, and what happens? It cause the house to catch afire.”
Johnson says property owners could be held responsible — if someone gets hurt.
