Burkville Hosts 15th Annual Okra Festival

Whether it’s boiled, fried, or in gumbo…the city of Burkville celebrated all things okra at the 15th Annual Okra Festival. Hundreds of people filled the streets to enjoy the festival, which is rated at one of the top 10 thinkgs to do in Alabama during the month of August.

People could enjoy sampling all sorts of food — everything from barbecue to Italian ice cream. More adventurous foodies could sample pig ear sandwiches and all kinds of okra-centric dishes like pickled okra and okra pie.

Vendors sold homemade quilts, artwork, and jewelery, which provided something for the whole family to enjoy.
