You may not know Canada is Alabama’s number one customer. And more than 100 thousand jobs in the state depend on trade and investment with Canada.

Hundreds of those jobs are based in Pike County and Wednesday a top Canadian official was in Troy.  Louise Blais is Counsel General for Canada covering the Southeastern U.S. She spent time in Pike County touring CGI, that’s a Canadian global IT consulting company. CGI employs more than 450 people locally at the Troy branch. One part of Blais’ job is to relay what she experiences to other Canadian companies.

Louise Blais, Consul General Canada said, “Really at the end of the day it comes down to people. What Troy appears to have, what I can tell, that may be an advantage with other areas is an ability to work very cohesively between the different levels of government. And understand how important it is to keep the area vibrant and growing. So it’s not completely unique to this area but it seems to function extremely well here.”

CGI is continuing to expand. It’s adding another 10,000 square feet to the Troy facility in the coming months increasing its workforce to more than 500 employees.
