More Improvements Coming To Normandale Mall
The city announced a new beautification project for the area around normandale. They hope all the improvements will help bring businesses back to the area. It’s a part of town that was once the center of attention. The city’s first big shopping center was a huge success 60 years ago. But as the city grew, that all changed. It’s kind of hard when you’re trying to look for private investment. It’s been a public-private investment to try to spur what we’ve got going on. I thank Mayor Strange for opening his campaign headquarters there in that area. Showing some growth. I’ve been having some ongoing meetings with the shopping center owner. A new owner took over the property this past year and is working hard to spruce up the space. Ken Ward wanted to do his part to help the area out too by bringing the community together to add 24 trees to the area around the mall. I just passed by there once and saw the huge medians. The medians are very large, much larger than the usual medians you see throughout this city or any other city. So I thought why not just plant some trees and help beautify the area. The money for the sycamores is coming from local businesses and non-profits. City councilman C.C. Calhoun hopes the beautification is just the start for the area. With the growth going to Montgomery mall and eastward, things just start moving away. But if we could just get small businesses interested in Ward expects to start planting the trees in November.
