Cake n Cue

Cake n Cue Press Release Montgomery, Ala.– A more than fifty-year tradition of slow-roasted barbecue and delicious home-baked goods continues at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, with a few changes. The annual fundraiser moves to the fall with a special offer of pre-ordered pork Boston butts, and a plethora of homemade baked goods, sponsored by the Episcopal Church Women, available for purchase at pick up, Oct. 17. Baked goods include a selection ranging from frosted layer cakes to brownies and cookies to breads and muffins. Funds generated by the event will be used to support the mission and ministries of the church. Tickets are $35 each and may be purchased from any church member or by calling the church office at 281-1337, ext. 300, said Senior Warden Jeri Tippit, through Oct. 12. Holy Comforter is located at the intersection of Fisk and Woodley Road just north of the Southern Boulevard (2911 Woodley Rd., Montgomery, AL 36111). The event is Saturday, Oct. 17 from 9 am until noon. The Reverend Bob Hennagin, rector of Holy Comforter, said one reason for the change from plates to roasts was to make the fundraiser more efficient. It was always difficult to gauge how much meat to buy,” he said. “Some years we had too much and some years, not enough. By asking people to pre-order their barbecue, we’ll know how much to purchase.” The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter operates a food pantry for people in need, Mondays and Wednesdays 1p.m. to 3 p.m. and Thursdays 9 a.m. to noon.
