Pike Co. Salvation Army Holds 7th Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon

The Pike County Salvation Army is using empty bowls to feed the hungry.

Today they held their seventh annual luncheon, with the hopes of raising more than $6,000 for their food bank.

Each year they help about 700 people and their families.

Supporters were sent home with one of more than 200 ceramic bowls made by different groups in the community.

The empty bowl is supposed to serve as a reminder of all those in the community that don’t have enough to eat.

Kim May, Director Pike Co. Salvation Army said, “All the soup was donated all the desserts were donated this is a cost free event and all the proceeds goes towards our food bank but we’ve been working all this past year on getting the bowls made.”

Organizers say their food bank is stocked when donations pour in around the holidays. But, then it starts to dwindle around this time of year. This fundraiser helps the supply through the summer.
