Dry & Sunny Today, Rain Returns

TERRIFIC TUESDAY: We are starting the day off in the 30s and 40s area wide, so the jackets will be needed heading out the door this morning, but by the afternoon, under an abundance of sunshine, we are going to see highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Overall a beautiful day across all of Alabama. Tonight, will be a mainly clear and chilly night with lows in the mid-40s for most locations again.

ON THE MAPS: An area of high pressure is sliding east through the Southeast today and is why the weather is so nice and calm today. Once it slides east of Alabama, the clockwise flow around this feature will allow our winds to shift out of the south and we will begin to see moisture levels increase overnight with a few passing clouds.

RAIN RETURNS: As we head into Wednesday, it will be another mild day with highs once again near 70F. Clouds will be increasing, and scattered showers are possible during the afternoon, especially over southwestern communities. Showers and a few storms will become widespread as we head through the overnight hours and into Thursday morning. There could certainly be some rumbles of thunder and gusty winds, but severe weather is not expected. By Thursday afternoon, we should see a clearing sky, and colder and drier air will settle into the state.

COLDER WEEKEND WEATHER: A trough digs down into the eastern half of the U.S. in the upper-levels, while at the surface an area of high pressure will provide subsidence, which means plenty of sunshine, very few clouds, and no chance of rain. Friday through Sunday will be beautiful, highs will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s, while overnight lows will be near freezing, and it will finally be feeling like the middle of December.

LONG RANGE: Heading into the week of Christmas, rain is set to return late Monday and into Tuesday. It looks like a soaking rain will be possible with a slow-moving system Tuesday and Wednesday, and several inches of rain could be possible. The rain should move out of the area just in time for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Temperatures are expected to be above seasonal averages with highs in the 60s and overnight lows in the 40s.

Have a great day!
Ryan
