Montgomery Fire Trainees Fired for Cheating
Seven trainees and a firefighter are out of a job after allegations of cheating. Tuesday, the Montgomery Fire/Rescue Department has terminated seven trainees and initiated termination proceedings against a firefighter following an incident of cheating. In a statement the department says the incident happened as a test was being administered at the training academy.
The department says it received information last week that the examination may have been compromised. That’s when officials requested an investigation by the Montgomery Office of City Investigations.
Public Safety director Chris Murphy says the department made the decision to terminate seven trainees based upon the findings of the investigation. Murphy says the firefighter facing termination served as proctor during the exam.
“This is an exceptional agency that provides the highest level of services,” said Murphy. “Montgomery Fire and Rescue has acted immediately and appropriately in keeping with the character and integrity of the department and its employees.”
