Severe Weather Threat in West Alabama

EMA officials in West Alabama are urging people to keep a watchful eye on the weather leading up to Christmas.

The growing possibility of a significant severe weather event Wednesday has EMA officials in Perry and Dallas counties trying to get the word out to residents who may be so focused on Christmas that they’re unaware of the threat.

“During this season severe weather is really not on people’s mind. They’re concerned with family, with Christmas,” said Perry Co. EMA Director Deandre Kimbrough.

Super-cell thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes, quarter-sized hail and damaging straight-line winds are expected to pass through the area late Wednesday afternoon and into Thursday.

EMA officials are urging residents to stay alert.

“This could turn into a severe weather event,” said Dallas Co. EMA Director Toya Stiles. “We need you to take precautions.”
