PRATTVILLEHOMES

A Prattville zoning board member is suing the very board he sits on.

Dr. Gerald Cimis is on the zoning adjustments board. That board denied a property owner’s request to update his mobile home, even though the switch was already made. Cimis said the request violated city ordinance and board rules. According to Cimis, The board later approved the measure after pressure from a city leader. He’s now taking the city to court, after no luck appealing, saying property rights of all residents could be tarnished if rules don’t apply to everyone.

Dr. Gerald Cimis, Board of Zoning Adjustments, “It makes you bring into question what is the value of a board that is supposed to protect property owner’s rights if one phone call from a politician could sway their vote in one month 180 degrees? what is the value of even having that board…they are at great risk of possibly having a mobile home placed in their neighborhood if it’s a residential neighborhood. And the city would lose if they tried to block it.”

We reached out to the city but we were told they are not able to comment on pending litigation. The mobile home owner says he was just trying to make the area look nicer. The city and Dr. Cimis are due in circuit court on March 1st.
