Andalusia Residents crammed into the Andala Building downtown to hear Mayor Earl Johnson share great plans for the city.
Everyone was excited as Mayor Johnson announce the big news: a new restaurant coming to the city and the renovation of the beloved theater. These are two major developments Mayor Johnson said could not have come soon enough.
“We were losing a lot of people that were leaving Andalusia and going to other areas to see movies and to eat out,” Johnson said. “Well, we’re going to keep those folks here now!”
Big Mike’s Steakhouse is moving into the Andala building downtown, which has been empty for decades.
“You treat people right and with good service and good food, I can’t imagine that the city of Andalusia and the partnership with Big Mike’s won’t be a positive one,” said Co-owner of Big Mike’s, Scott Powell.
The movie theater will be completely renovated, with three new screens and recliners instead of traditional movie theater seats.
“It’s absolutely amazing. It’s going to be good for us, and great for the city of Andalusia and the surrounding areas. Go eat at Big Mike’s and go to the movies!” added President of Clark Theaters Inc. Mack Clark Jr.
Mayor Johnson says both Big Mike’s and Clark Theaters Inc. were eager to come to the city. He credits that to his city’s residents and personal values.
“Andalusia is a very progressive city,” Johnson expained. “We take pride in how we look, we take care of ourselves, we take care of our city, make it look great. The people in Andalusia care about their city. And it shows.”
Construction on the projects is expected to begin in the next two months. Both companies hope to be ready for grand openings this summer.
