Coalition Canvasses City to Count Number of Homeless

annmontgomerynewsroom.jpgHow big is the homeless problem in Montgomery? The Mid-Alabama Coalition for the Homeless is working to determine that number.

Staff and volunteers canvassed the city Thursday night, counting the number of homeless people both on the street and in shelters. Volunteers also gave out food, hygiene items, blankets, and coats.

The annual count is necessary in order to receive federal funding.

This time last year, MACH volunteers found a total of 886 homeless men, women, and children across the River Region.
