Fort Dale Academy in Greenville is hosting a philanthropy fundraiser, and this time it is for the organization Pilots for Christ, Inc. Pilots for Christ, Inc. is a travel service that helps those who are too sick to travel get to and from treatments.
Headmaster of Fort Dale Academy, David Brantley, knows what it is like to see a loved one suffer from an illness.
“My sister, Margaret Westbrook of Brewton, has been flown to MD Anderson, I think four times by Pilots for Christ. And my wife has accompanied her as a caretaker,” said Brantley.
Brantley added that Pilots for Christ, Inc. was a Godsend at a time his family needed them most. “It’s just an amazing organization. The people in Monroeville, just Godly people. It’s ministry from God, and it’s a gift from God that they’re able to do what they do for people.”
“Everybody has been touched by some type of sickness that might be able to use this service. It’s just been a blessing for them,” said Student Government Association Sponsor Wendy Jones. Jones and her students have done multiple fundraisers and are only $200 away from their $1800 goal.
“Whether you’re trying to decide whether to donate or not, just do it. I mean, what else are you going to do with the money better than helping somebody else?” said SGA President Caison Elliott.
Elliot and his classmates are happy to be giving back to an organization that has helped so many people they know.
“You see the impact that it has on our community, even on our school,” said Elliott. “Our headmaster and multiple teachers have been affected by Pilots for Christ. And it’s just great getting to know that we can support the people who are in need, but also who are around us that we see every day.”
The school will be accepting donations for the rest of the month of February. All checks and donations can be made out to Pilots for Christ, Inc. and sent to Fort Dale Academy at 1100 Gamble St, Greenville, AL 36037.
