After more than a month of road blocks and detours, Glendale Avenue has finally reopened. The popular road sits behind Greenville Middle and Elementary schools. The roads were washed away by strong rains early this year.
Milton Luckie, director of Greenville Public Works, said Glendale was under construction for almost three weeks. He adds that while a patch of the road is still loose gravel, it is completely safe for anyone to drive on as long as they follow the new speed limit signs.
“Obey by all the signs that we have out, and be cautious, and drive the speed limit that we have, and then they should be fine,” Milton said.
Now that Glendale is done, the city can focus on rebuilding County Road 44. The rains caused a large sinkhole to appear on the road right next to the Cambrian Ridge Golf Course entrance.
Milton said none of the work could be completed without the help of the Alabama Department of Transportation. He said ALDOT has agreed to reimburse the nearly $200,000 construction bill.
” Glendale was a $169,000 project, and the one at Sherling Lake is approximately a $36,000 project. Yes, the city will be reimbursed for it,” Milton said.
Work on County Road 44 begins Thursday. Milton said the crew hopes to be done with the work by Monday at the latest.
