The town of Sylacauga is known for it’s rich, white marble and for something a little extra-terrestrial. Back in 1954, a meteorite burned through the sky and eventually smashed through a home and hit a woman. The woman lived but the legend of the Hodges Meteorite was born.
Nowadays, there’s a beautiful marble sculpture to the meteorite on display for the world to see. Jeff Sanders has more in Alabama Oddities.
